 Before knowing how management helps to run business smoothly, it is necessary to understand the term Management. 

In simple term, management word is comprised of two words and they are manage and men. Therefore, in together it gives the meaning to managing men or managing people or staffs. 

Management is the process of placing right people in right job in order to make optimum utilization of their skills, knowledge and experience and to gain desire goal.
But in this current world, management is not only to manage people but also utilizing the available finance properly. So, utilizing the available resources (staff & money) in best way to obtain desire goal is known as management.

According to Henry Fayol, "to manage is to forecast and to plan, to organize, to command, to co-ordinate and to control."

According to J.N Schulze, "management is the force which leads, guides and directs an organization in the accomplishment of a pre-determined objects."

According to S. George, "management consists of getting things done through others. Manager is one who accomplishes the objectives by directing the efforts of others."

To sum up, management is the way of gathering  people and working together in a organized way  to gain the goal of organization. For company or organization, proper use of its staff and other available resources are important. If a company cannot use its resources properly then it cannot achieve its goal.

Likewise, while starting a new business, you must have clear knowledge about the function of management. There are five basic functions of management which you guys should know and they are given below:
  1. Planning
  2. Organizing
  3. Staffing
  4. Directing
  5. Controlling
1.Planning:
                 Generally, planning is deciding in advance. It means that generating ideas and making decision about the future course of action. It mostly includes the answer of questions like what to do?, when to do?, how to do?, where to do? and so on. A company or organization must spend their valuable time while making planning. Because planning is the road map of achieving the particular goal of company. Similarly, planning helps to guide you to reach your goal. After making plan to achieve certain goal or to solve problem, it serve to as a track and guide you to what to do and where to lead.

2.Organizing:
                      This organizing function comes after making plan to achieve particular goal. It is a process of gathering staff and allocating required resources, so that goal can be achieved smoothly. So for this, you need to do detail research on your goal and have to gather staff who can help you to get your goal and similarly, you have to allocate all the resources which are required to reach your goal. It is very necessary for you to find proper resources like qualified staff, required money and location to reach your goal smoothly.

3.Staffing: 
                  Staffing is the process of selecting staff which have required qualification and skills to achieve the organizational goal. While running a business you may require to hire staff or you may have to offer job to other people, so that you get aid to run your business. In this stage, you must select right people to place them in right job. So that they can use their skill, knowledge and experience to achieve your goal in return of remuneration. 

4.Directing:
                   After making plan, organizing all the resources and putting right men at right job, it is now time for you to direct them towards the goal of your organization. Only making planning, organizing and staffing, you cannot reach your goal. In order to reach your goal, you must guide them, you must explain their role in your organization, your must provide them some authority and responsibility. You have to inform them about your organization's rules and regulation. You have to make them understand about your vision and goal.

5.Contolling:
                    Here, controlling means evaluating the work and taking necessary measures to reach goal. It is necessary to evaluate and measures whether you are going as your planning or not. You have to measure whether you will reach your goal in desire time or not. If not then you can simply take necessary steps to accomplish it  in time. So this controlling function of management is vital for your business to gain profit. From here, you can amend your plan if your plan in too ambitious, so that you can stop the wastage of your resources.
