Concept of Organizational Behaviour with its key elements and characterists

This article is all about the meaning of organizational behaviour and its key elements and characteristics. https://bizmgnt.blogspot.com/

Concept and meaning of Organizational Behaviour

Generally, organizational behaviour is the study of human behaviour at work. In other words, it refers to the study of human behaviour in organization and application of knowledge to make it more purposive, responsible and cooperative. It involves understanding and prediction of human behaviour for improving organizational effectiveness in organization. Mainly, the subject matter of organizational behaviour is how people behave in formal organization in given circumstances.

Many authors and scholars have given their views regarding organizational behaviour differently. Some of the definitions are:

Joe Kelly:"Organizational behaviour is the systematic study of the nature of organizations: how they begin, grow and develops, their effect on individual members, constituent groups, other organizations and larger institutions."

Keith Davis:"Organizational behaviour is an academic discipline concerned with understanding and describing human behaviour in an organizational environment. It seeks to shed light  on the whole complex huma factor in organization by identifying causes and effects of that behaviour."

In conclusion, oragnizational behaviour is the study of how and what human being act in organization and also how their act affect the performance of the organization.

Keys element of Organization Behaviour (OB)

Main key elements of organizational behaviour are listed below:
1: People
2: Structure
3: Technology
4: Environment

1:People:
People consist of individuals and groups.  And every individuals has personal goal to be achieved. So every organization must find the variety need of individuals  because they are the main component of organization.  Therefore,  people play vital role in understanding organizational behaviour.

2:Structure:
Every organization has structure whereas structure is the overall framework for organizational roles, rules, relation, hierarchy and authority.  It also involves the grouping of jobs, allocating jobs in divisions and units,  assigning people to work etc.  Thus, it influences behaviour of people working in the organization.

3:Technology:
Technology is the process of converting input into output.  It provides the resources with which people work and also affects the task that they perform. One of the important of technology is it allows people to do more work in better way. Thus, technology also influences people behaviour so it is an important job of any organization to manage technology.

4:Environment:
Organization performs its activities within a given internal and external environment. Internal environment involves organization resources, structure, culture etc.  And external environment involves econimic, political, socio cultural and technology.  All of these mutually influence one another in a complex way.  Hence, environment also becomes a key element in the study of organizational behaviour.

( Above mentioned points are the main key elements in which the organizational behaviour depends)

Characteristics of OB (Organizational behaviour)

There are many characteristics of organizational behaviour. Some of them are as follows:
1.Complex study
2.Situational
3:Goal oriented
4.Multidisciplinary
5.Multiple levels

1.Complex study:
Organizational behaviour is complex study of what people do in organization.  OB cannot identifies correct answer to human or organizational problems. And it is also not possible to make exact prediction of behaviour of people in organization. To predict relationship between variables on a broad scale is possible but it is difficult to apply predictive models on an individual basis.  Thus,  it is a comlpex matter.

2.Situational:
OB is situational in nature and it is dynamic discipline.  It helps to understand human behaviour under a variety of situation.  Just because people can behave differently at different times does not mean that OB cannot offer reasonably accurate explanations of human behaviour. And it does not prescribe one solution to solve all problems.

3.Goal oriented:
Organizational behaviour is action oriented and goal oriented in nature.  The major objective of OB is to explain and predict human behaviour in organizational context so that it may be useful to make result yielding situatioms.  It provides a rational thinking about people and their behaviour.

4.Multidisciplinary:
Multi disciplinary is another character of organizational behaviour.  It is a blended discipline thar has grown out of contribution from numerous fields of study.  Some of the traditional disciplines such as  social psychology, anthropology, political science, economics and some emerging disciplines such as  communication, information system, and medicine are the primary fields of study out of which organizational behaviour has grown. Each of these disciplines has its own importance on the discipline of organizational behaviour.

5.Multiple levels:
Organizational behaviour is multiple levels and has a three tier system.  OB deals with the individual behaviour,  grouo behaviour and organizational behaviour as a whole.  All these three levels interact with each other and OB tries to assimilate them for the better results.
